COL: How old are you and where are you from?
KD: Hello Collective. i am 32 years old and i grew up in Sandefjord in Vestfold Norway.
COL: What do you do?
KD: i am a Dj and Producer. i just released my second official release “a vortex of a whole new experience” a techno acid house mini album. i also collect compact cameras and do a lot of street photography. i also teach electronic music to kids and having workshops for the next generation.
COL: How long have you been doing it?
KD: i started djing and producing when i was 14 years old so i think it is 18 years now.
COL: What inspired you to pursue a career in art?
KD: i would say that music got my attention more than anything else in my life. i went to arts and crafts in school and i did more music than anything else. A lot of artists i was inspired by was bedroom producers and i remember i could watch videos and interviews of these people having small studio set ups in their own bedroom and producing their own music without having a big fancy studio. This was clearly possible for me and what's more inspiring than knowing that you could do it too.
COL: Do you remember your first work of art?
KD: yes, i did a ep in 2003. i had such a hard time with a relationship at the time (but not really because i was only 16). i listened to a lot of Ninja tunes and Norwegian electronica. i guess i was reflecting my life experience and what i was listening to and made the EP. i did the artwork and production by myself. Even tho it's a long time ago and it still sounds like it's a long time ago, im still proud of it because i can say that this was my first piece of art.
COL: If you could have any piece of art in history, what would you choose?
KD: well i know it's a longshot but since i can choose whatever i want i would say everything by Jackson Pollock.
COL: What is your relationship with fashion?
KD: i always been aware of fashion and i’ve always paid attention to it. a lot of my friends is really into it and i think that is fun because i can look into it whenever i want. i read a lot about fashion and i'm really fascinated by almost everything Yohji Yamamoto say in a lot of his interviews. it's a must to read his interview about fast fashion and fashion victims. but my real relationship with fashion is that music and fashion goes hand in hand and it would be boring without one another.
COL: What does the word “collective” mean to you as an artist?
KD: Collective for me means a group of people pushing each other up and express themself together as a unit. Collective means sharing a common belief and supporting each other.
COL: What is the best and worst thing about being an artist?
KD: Sometimes the best part is the worst and the worst part is the best. The ups and downs are the most inspiring moments.
COL: Who do you admire?
KD: i admire people who can make a million interesting things from what they have right in front of their eyes like everybody else. i admire people who can show the way they look at the world and express it so perfect that the consumer can relate without words. in other words i admire cinematic feels and seeing pictures in music. The person who has given me the best cinematic experience with music must be Ryuichi sakamoto. im such a big fan.
COL: What can we expect to see at this year’s festival?
KD: i will provide a lot of fun music. i don't think a party doesn't need more than just fun. it will be a blast.
COL: Who are you excited to see?
KD: Definitely Dusan Reljin and Pernille Sandberg. and i’m really excited to see Hilmar o Jaxen’s show. But i think Kit Wan is really interesting and i'm looking forward to see what he is up to.
COL: How important is the ability to expose your art to you and your creative field?
KD: well i think that my art is my reflection of me and my life and the way i experience it. Compressing all of this into sound and show it to people is important. hopefully they will relate to the feelings in the music or just dance to it. art for me is to wake up feelings in other people. if it is a bad or good feeling it doesn't matter just as long as they feel something. But music should be fun and if i can share the fun i have with music that would make it even more fun. Come down and see my dj set and dance with us all night,
