Q & A:
COL: How old are you and where are you from?
CA: I’m 41, born and raised in Oslo
COL: What do you do?
CA: Creative Director, Co-Founder and Owner of Envelope 1976, Editor of Envelope.no, consultant, writer of 3 books and photographer.
COL: How long have you been doing it?
CA: We have been working on Envelope1976 – a new clothing brand to be launched this fall- for about 1,5 years. Photography is something I grew up with since my father is a photographer, and I have had an eye for details, shapes and architecture from an early stage. Having worked as a journalist and Editor in Chief of different publications for many years, photography has always been an important part of my storytelling.
COL: What inspired you to pursue a career in art?
CA: My father is a photographer and I have been interested in photography and art since I was young. My parents took me to exhibitions every weekend when I grew up.
COL: Do you remember your first work of art?
CA: If I don’t, I guess my mom does. She has collected everything me and my brother created throughout the years. One of the first things I made was a 20 meter long painting with my brother at artist Anders Kjær’s birthday party. We got to hang it up in his old atelier.
A highlight was when I had my pictures shown as part of a collective exhibition in Paris with Maison Martin Margiela.
COL: If you could have any piece of art in history, what would you choose?
CA: The egg at Salvador Dalis house is iconic and symbolic for me.
COL: What is your relationship with fashion?
CA: It´s ambivalent!
I have been in the industry for many years, on both sides, and the fashion business is one of the worst, at the same time- I do still believe in a more transparent industry. With Envelope1976 our focus is to design seasonless collections – for a modern woman with a sustainable approach- and hopefully we all are moving in the right direction inspired by each other and what we can do to reuse, reduce and recycle. For me its more inspiring to check out my old grandmothers closet or a flea market than an average store.
COL: What does the word “collective” mean to you as an artist?
CA: To be part of something together as individuals in a collective - with so many talented people is an honour. It is a good way for new talents to be seen, and it gives people an opportunity to discover something fresh and new, and explore different types of art.
COL: Who do you admire?
CA: Young, fearless artists from around the world who takes risks and challenges in different genres, including music, art and fashion.
My father – Rolf M. Aagaard, Andy Warhol, Gundelach for his music and Salvador Dali.
COL: What can we expect to see at this year’s festival?
CA: A combination of my fascination for the ocean, in contrasts of what we do with the Ocean and most of all what we can do.
COL: Who are you excited to see?
CA: I’m excited to discover new artists and check out installations- the mix between established artists, photographers and young- talents- the new generation to watch.
COL: How important is the ability to expose your art to you and your creative field?
CA: It is not important for me, but if we all can create something with a mission to inspire people, to move forward to save the planet that is a good thing- in one way or another…
