Q & A:

COL: How old are you and where are you from?

AWAN: Still clinging on to 39. I was born in Seoul, raised in Tromsø, now live in Oslo with London as my second home

COL: What do you do?

AWAN: Full time start up entrepreneur, mother & dreamer. More specifically I am the founder of As We Are Now (AW:AN), a lifestyle brand for women launching with around the clock sleepwear collection this weekend

COL: How long have you been doing it?

AWAN: I´ve been an entrepreneur since I started my first company 9 years ago (during my first maternity leave), but started on my current journey last year when I was in maternity leave (again) with my baby girl. I´ve been a dreamer all my life.

COL: What inspired you to pursue a career in art?

AWAN: I love creating and creative processes. I spent most of my youth and my 20s pursuing a career in music, singing and writing, but my first love was drawing women and clothes, especially beautiful, sensual dresses.

I believe art, work and life should all be seen as one.

COL: What is your relationship with fashion?

AWAN: I think we find ourselves in a moment in time when we are about to redefine fashion as a holistic experience that should both makes you look and feel good, as well as being a part of the solution, rather than the problem in regards to sustainability. I love how clothes have the power to make you feel and make you more aware of yourself, in the same way that music and other art forms provoke emotions and define identity.

COL: What does the word “collective” mean to you as an artist?

AWAN: First of all I am having a hard time defining myself as an artist. Maybe a creator sounds better…

Collective to me means sharing.

COL: What is the best and worst thing about being an artist?

AWAN: I think the best and the worst is actually the same thing. It is that moment when something you´ve made goes from being a private creative process to something public, open for judgement, comments, love, hate and indifference from the outside world.

COL: Who do you admire?

AWAN: People who´ve played a hard game, played well and won, with everything that goes into that in terms of time, dedication, practice, strategy, creativity, love and sacrifices

And people who keep a good balance in life

COL: What can we expect to see at this year’s festival?

AWAN: From As We Are Now? A mash up, challenging traditional categories and creating new ones

COL: Who are you excited to see?

AWAN: Everyone else, really!

COL: How important is the ability to expose your art to you and your creative field?

AWAN: Communication is everything, in every field
